Schreiberdale Holsteins

Schreiberdale Holsteins, LLC is a second generation farm that was founded in 1976. In 2012, the farm began looking into an anaerobic digester. The building timeframe took place between 2012 and 2015, and the digester began producing gas in July of 2014 (whereupon the farm just flared the gas). It began producing electricity in August of 2015. The delay is electrical production was due in part to capital costs as well as waiting to receive the read time from Germany for the GenSet). The digester is a rare variety called an Anaerobic Fluidized Bed Digester, and is the first of its kind in New York state. It contains ground-up coal, which provides a substrate for bacteria to grow on.
